The Iliad: An All-Day Audience-Participation
Reading of Caroline Alexander's Translation, spoken in Latin, Ancient Greek, Italian, and the Languages of the World
June 13th, 2026 – Accademia Vivarium Novum,
Frascati, RM, Italy

A Memorial Reading in honor of IROH's Founder and Readings' Editor - Kathryn Hohlwein

We are thrilled to have partnered with the Accademia Vivarium Novum, Italy's center for classical language and cultural studies, and with IMARK Impact, a US nonprofit for cultural diplomacy, in offering a 12-hour, all-day into the night audience-participation reading of the Iliad on Saturday, June 13th, 2026 at the glorious Vivarium Novum campus overlooking Rome.

This reading of Homer’s epic –the Iliad– will be based on the first complete translation of the poem by a woman in English, the noted classics scholar Caroline Alexander, who will join us.

Students from the Vivarium Novum will read passages in Latin and Ancient Greek, and others may find and read their assigned passage in any language of their choosing, as we will follow along with the projected text in Italian and English.

We offer this democratic, shared reading as a global celebration of peace, language, literature, and cultural unity, in the spirit of our Founder, Kathryn Hohlwein.

There will be lectures, music, and other offerings to support the reading. More details coming soon.

It will be magical!

We hope you join us!
