The Readers were honored to partner with the Greek Embassy and EllinikoTheatro in this extraordinary program at the City Theater in Tehran. Presented as part of the 35th Fadjr International Theatre Festival, our reading of the Odyssey was paired with a series of academic lectures and seminars on Homer, the Odyssey, and resonant related themes.

The program provided an important international cultural exchange around Homer and the legacy of Hellenic culture in the context of a major international festival. In addition to the participation of scholars and students from the University of Tehran and other schools, audience members and readers of all ages and backgrounds joined the celebration. The reading was presented in English and Persian, and included musical interludes from local and international musicians.

The founder of the International Readers of Homer, Prof. Emerita Kathryn Hohlwein, launched our Homeric program with a visit to Tehran in November 2016. While there, she presented a lecture at the University of Tehran on the continued relevance of Homer in our world today.
